Book of Hours: June

Illuminated Style Web Page.

Web pages can be done to look like illuminated pages. This is an example of what can be done with a fairly simple format.

This page is designed around an 800 pixel width and "Black Chancery" font which is one that many people have installed on their computers. Drop Caps and special titles can and should be done as graphics with alternate text to keep the flavour of the page for those whose browsers and systems will fall back to simpler designs. I am also using for this sample a font called "Zallman-Caps" for the drop capitals. Of course other fonts might be used. The style of which might reflect earlier or later time periods as well as different cultures.

Images to be placed on this page might be done in the style of period illumination or as is whether photo quality or computer graphic. Links might be done from period style illumination or from illuminated capitols. Of course more work requires more time and effort. One option to retain the feel of the Illuminated page would be to create thumbnail images in a style reminiscent of illumination which would be a link to an actual file with the photograph. A few examples will follow.

Link Samples:

Here are some samples of how links might be done on the Illuminated Style Web Page:

Back

This capital could be a link back to a previous page

Home

This capital could be a link back to a home page

Forward

This capital could be a link forward to the next page in a series of pages

Kingdom of An Tir Populace Badge

This is a link to the SCA Kingdom of An Tir Web Site

This is a link to a personal SCA Web Site. It is a photograph altered to look somewhat like stained glass

SCA Social Circle

This is a link to Wade's SCA Social Circle, a place for SCA personal web pages.

The structure of the page could be fairly flexible depending on desire and need. Links could be located at the top or bottom in addition to links within the body of the page. A menu bar could be created within the body of the parchment area or even to sit above it.
